I love this time of year when I start to see snowdrops, which to me represents the first sign that spring may be on the way. Although I have to say that so far we have been very lucky with such a mild winter. However the floods have been rather a nuisance, and with the current levels of the rivers, they are far from over.
Another indication of spring pending is my Amaryllis houseplant. I’ve had this for just over 2 years now. And each year it has amazed me how it appears to die and then regrows. Initially I had thought I’d killed it, as I’m not very good with plants. I seem to always over-water or under-water. Mostly only spider plants and aloe vera survive under my care.
However I cut the dead stems off and left it on the window sill, continuing to water occasionally and lo and behold, it grew again last year. I have to admit, with everything else going on in my life, I can’t remember if it re-flowered last year. Then once again it died down, but here it is starting to regrow once more.
I have never grown an Amaryllis before but do rather like the look of them – maybe I should add it to my To Do List for 2014. Hope yours grows well.

How exciting that it’s growing again. It’s great to have a plant to watch the progress of and if I remember rightly an Amaryllis grows quite quickly, so you wont have too long to wait.

Yes I took the photo a week ago, as planning to do the post for last week’s linky but didn’t get time. Already grown a couple more inches.

We had an amaryllis for the first time this winter, it flowered just in time for Christmas 🙂 Although not flowering now, it’s still going strong with new leaves! #HDYGG

I have a few house-plants – all in the kitchen with light and near a tap so I remember to actually water them, though!

Yes it is lovely when I receive a beautiful house plant as a gift, but then the guilt when I manage to kill most of them

It is strange, isn’t it, how these things that appear completely dead suddenly start erupting into life again?! #HDYGG

yes we brought very bedraggled tomato plants inside partway through the winter that I thought already dead and within a month had harvested just a few very tiny tomatoes
