A Spoonful of Stew in Zanzibar Zoo review and giveaway

As I don’t even have a smart phone, this is a first for me – reviewing an iBook. But since my boys are both very used to using my husband’s iPad and it is a childrens’ book, all was plain sailing. My husband downloaded a copy of the iBook “A Spoonful of Stew in Zanzibar Zoo” by Steph Caller onto his iPad. This is available on iTunes free for the iPad or iPhone, if you wish to download a copy.  It will be available on Google Play shortly, which will make it accessible on all android devices too.

Here is a brief description of the book.
The Zebras of Zanzibar Zoo are enjoying their favourite stew. But when there is only one spoonful left in the pot, who will eat it? A fun story about food, friendship, manners and sharing, with quirky illustrations and rhyming verse by debut author Steph Caller and audio narration from Johnny Carne.

My boys loved this story. First we muted it and my big boy read it to his little brother and me, although son 2 would have been capable of reading it too. Then we listened to the audio narrative. We discussed how Matilda was kind to think of little Charlie and how Butt was naughty at first.

The boys decided they wanted to do their favourite style of review – namely a video. And Steph offered to send the boys a free t-shirt each to wear in the video.

Son 1 received a green t-shirt depicting “Butt”, the naughty zebra from the story. Son 2 received a red t-shirt with a “Fingerprints” design of zebras. They are both very happy with their t-shirts. We also received a free zebra tote bag with the logo “Am I black with white stripes, or white with black stripes?”

The t-shirts are made from 100% organic cotton. They are also Earth Positive which means they are manufactured solely using renewable green energy from wind and solar power. They are totally individual as each has a unique hand-stitched zebra in the back left hand corner of the garment. They retail at £15 each in sizes to fit children age 3 – 12. The Zebrative shop also stocks clothes for babies and women. This is quite expensive for kids clothes, but worth it in my opinion when you take into account that they are Earth Positive and 100% organic.

The boys were also very excited to see that there are two more books “A Didgeridoo in Zanzibar Zoo” and “”A Game of Zung Fu in Zanzibar Zoo” plus a Game App coming soon. The App will be about The Zebras of Zanzibar Zoo and aimed at children age 2-5.

And I’m hosting a rafflecopter competition to giveaway a t-shirt courtesy of Zebrative to one lucky winner.

Love the tshirts! And the way you used the book & discussed it rather than just reading it to them 🙂
