The Book With No Pictures review and giveaway

We have received a free kids eBook to review. This is “The Book With No Pictures” by award-winning US actor and comedian B J Novak and it is exactly what it says – a book with no pictures, although targetted at young children who are more used to picture books.

The Book With No Pictures

This book will be published in the UK on 4th December. It was an instant hit when published earlier this Autumn in the US, quickly claiming the top spot on the New York Times Bestseller list and is the most talked about childrens’ (non) picture book in recent years.

The Book With No Pictures begins slyly with the suggestion that non-illustrated books seem serious and boring. But then goes on to explain that the rule of books is that anything written on the page has to be said by the person reading the book aloud. The book demands a shared reading experience, in which an adult is compelled to read the text aloud, no matter how “COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS” it is.

So the idea is that the adult reads this book to the child / children but both boys wanted to join in with the reading, so we took it in turns to read a page each. It was so funny that we were all in fits of giggles. I thoroughly recommend it.

I’d love to hear what funny things you would get someone to say if you were to write a book of this genre?
