It is always a nice surprise when you receive an expected parcel in the post. But this one amazed me. Fancy opening the box and discovering a grassy meadow inside! I had been sent some Kerrygold goodies free to review.
The goodies comprised a book, a biscuit, wildflower seeds, a pen and Kerrygold butter. No they hadn’t sent real butter which might have melted in the post. It was a pretend block of butter. But I did subsequently receive a voucher for a free pack of Kerrygold butter.
So let me tell you about the book which is called “The Tale of City Sue”. For a change, instead of one of the boys reading, we enjoyed some cuddle time whilst I read it out loud. City Sue is a cow from the City who doesn’t eat grass and wants to be inside. A lovely little story written in rhyme.
Kerrygold have teamed up with children’s author Jeanne Willis, who has written over 300 books, to launch this storybook. It encapsulates the values at the heart of Kerrygold. Current RRP of “The Tale of City Sue” is £5.99.
And of course we all wanted a tasty Kerrygold treat after our story. And although the biscuit looked very yummy, it would be hardly more than a mouthful each to share between us! So I also made some of my mini savoury scones, using Kerrygold butter.
Ingredients (makes approx 20)
200g self raising flour
50g Kerrygold butter
50g mature cheddar
50g kalamata olives (or similar)
120 ml milk
salt
pepper
additional Kerrygold butter (for spreading)
approx 100g garlic and herb soft cheese (for filling)
Method
Preheat fan oven to 200 deg C.
Sieve the flour.
Add the salt and pepper.
Rub the Kerrygold butter into flour.
Chop the olives into small pieces.
Grate the cheese.
Add the olives and cheese.
Mix in sufficient milk to give a soft but not sticky dough.
Draw the mixture into a ball.
Dust a chopping board with flour.
Flatten mixture to approx 1.5cm high.
Use a 4cm circular cutter to cut out scones.
Place on a greased baking tray.
Brush tops with milk.
Bake for approx 10-15 minutes until well risen, firm and golden brown.
Allow to cool.
Cut scones in half and spread with Kerrygold butter
Fill with the garlic and herb soft cheese.
Serve and enjoy.
And I’m hosting a rafflecopter competition courtesy of Kerrygold to giveaway copies of “The Tale of City Sue” to ten lucky winners.
