My Dream Bathroom

This is the third time in only a few weeks that I have been challenged to take the Great British Home Quiz. Previously by Britmums and Tots100. Now by Mumsnet who this time also want me to blog about my dream bathroom.

So action, camera, Take 3 on the quiz. Same questions. And lo and behold, I’m again Mrs Glamorous, which I still find funny, as it is so far from the real me. But I do like the photo of the bathroom that the quiz has selected for me.

Now onto my dream bathroom. I already have a really good-sized bathroom with a large shower. But I do have a few little complaints. Sink plugs where the lifting mechanism doesn’t work, so the choice is either break a nail trying to prise it out manually or just wash under a running tap, wasting water into the bargain. Also I think we may need a few washers replacing, as we have some dripping taps. And worst bugbear of all – having to call out a plumber because of a blocked loo. In my dream bathroom, there would never ever be any blockages.

And why can’t bathrooms come with all the matching accessories included. I spent ages trying to find the right soap dish. I wanted a rectangular or oval white free-standing ceramic draining soap dish, as too often I found another family member had left the soap in a dish half full of water, so the bar of soap went all soft and soggy. In the end, not being able to find exactly what I wanted, I settled for what I thought was second best. A white circular stainless steel dish that I found on Amazon for about £11. But it turned out to be rubbish. Within a few months, the white paint was flaking off and sticking to the soap. So I’m still searching for that elusive soap dish for my bathroom. Do let me know, if you’ve seen it for sale somewhere.

Even though I have a big bathroom, I still dream of it being bigger, as I would love to have a large circular jacuzzi. Jets of water massaging away the aches and pains. It would be bliss, just soaking all my cares and troubles away.

A Shelfie in my Great British Home

Regular readers of my blog may remember that I took the Great British Home Quiz back in April and that I was most surprised, when my homestyle answers suggested that I was Mrs Glamorous. Nothing could be further from the truth. Well Tots100 have challenged me to take the quiz again and also to share a Shelfie on my blog.

Great British Home Quiz

A Shelfie I hear some of you ask? What is a Shelfie? Is it a typo? Did I mean to write Selfie? No, a Shelfie is a photo of a shelf, in your home, shared on social media.

So I duly took the quiz again, recognising the same questions as last time. So I wasn’t quite so surprised when for the second time, it suggested I was Mrs Glamorous, although it still makes me laugh.

And now for my Shelfie, or should I say 3. I have a china cabinet with 3 display shelves which holds a lot of precious items to hopefully keep them safe from my kids, although unfortunately a Poole pottery salt pot did get broken, so I now have a lonely salt pot. I was inspired to collect Poole pottery by my grandma who had some lovely pieces. I have wonderful memories of my grandma and now the boys are able to understand about fragile items, I may soon get her Poole pottery out of storage and find some Shelfies to display it. Meanwhile there are other treasured bits and pieces in my cabinet like my “Pecheuse des moules” terracotta statue by Eugene Blot and my husband’s Sylvac rabbits.

The #GreatBritishHome Challenge

Britmums have challenged bloggers to join in the #GreatBritishHome Challenge to celebrate the Great British Home in all its guises!.

To start the ball rolling, I took the Great British Home Quiz, which very surprisingly suggested that I am Mrs Glamorous when it comes to my Celebrity Home Style! This is what it says about Mrs Glamorous…

YOUR STYLE IS MOST LIKE JOEY ESSEX OR SAM FAIERS FROM TOWIE
Everything about you screams glamour; you always look photo-ready, whether you are working out, shopping in designer boutiques or snuggled up at home in your designer onesie. You crave home comforts that make a statement – a faux fur blanket, embellished cushions and lots of crushed velvet. You use neutral shades mixed with metallic. Pride of place are family portraits, kitchen gadgets and the keys to your Range Rover.
WISH LIST: ADD A MODERN TRENDY BATHROOM SUITE LIKE THE PRINCETON FROM VICTORIA PLUMB, AND YOUR BATHROOM BECOMES A PLACE TO SHOW OFF TO YOUR FRIENDS – THE PERFECT PLACE TO TAKE THE OBLIGATORY SELFIE!
CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT: A feature fireplace for all those OK Magazine spreads

Hmmm. I can’t relate to any of that and I’ve never watched Towie. I couldn’t be further from glamorous if I tried. I have no designer labels and only wear make-up for a rare special night out. We have no faux fur blankets. The nearest is my son’s fleecy Toy Story blanket. Yes we have cushions in the living room, but none are embellished. We have no bedroom cushions, but perhaps I might like to add some to style our home. And definitely no crushed velvet. Yes I like neutral shades, but no metallic.

And as to pride of place, we do have photos of the boys dotted around the house, mainly unframed, but we don’t have a family portrait of the 4 of us together. 3 is the most in any photo. Maybe I should do something about that.  Although I do like my kitchen gadgets, they don’t feature for pride of place either and there is certainly no range rover parked outside. Instead pride of place goes to my boys’ artwork which decorates my kitchen.

And yes there is a fireplace in the lounge, but no fire. Just an empty space in the chimney breast. It’s on the list to do something about, but never got to the top of the list yet.

So how about you take the Great British Home Quiz and see what it says about your home style?
