Inspired by the amazingly unique and tiny hummingbird, these dainty earrings have been hard carved and cast in sterling silver by master goldsmith Jana Reinhardt. What Us Mums Would Love This Mother’s Day

Now that Spring is finally just around the corner, of course it is time for Mother’s Day again. I used to struggle with my own mother’s gifts, never being sure if I had got the right thing. Now that I am a mum I realise its simple, just buy nice things!

Jokes aside, for me personally, I love seeing my kids develop and so spending time with them is my main priority (providing they behave!) So treating your mum to a great day out as a family could be all she wants. Often my other half will arrange to take me somewhere and together he and the kids cover the bill which I think is so sweet. Is there somewhere you have heard your mum mention she wants to go? A restaurant she has raved about going to? Or, you could even just take her to one of her favourite places together.

Of course, no celebration would be complete without gifts! Jewellery has always been a wonderful gift as it can be as expensive and personal as you like, but for mothers it should always be special. If your mum already has a lot of jewellery, jewellery boxes for women can now be as pretty as the jewellery itself and make for great gifts. If she travels a lot you can always look for a specific travelling jewellery box, or just go for a statement piece that she can show off on her dressing table.

Considering all the running around us mums end up doing, why not show your mum you appreciate it by getting her a relaxing massage or spa day? You can either choose a local beauty salon near you, or if your budget is big enough send her off for a luxurious overnight stay at a health farm. No mother could say no to that! You could even liaise with your mum’s close friends or relatives to go at the same time to make a big trip out of it, or go with her yourself if that’s your thing!

Any excuse to dress up nice is a good one, and getting a new outfit most definitely counts! For clothes, I would say vintage tea dresses look great on all types of figures so can be hard to get wrong. Very flattering and also perfect for Spring. If you are not sure on dress sizes or styles, then perhaps stick to accessories. With Spring comes new shopping collections so you can bag your mum the best new products around.

Tickets to your mum’s favourite band, show or event are a great way to get yourself in the good books. Not only does it show that you have thought about the present, but it also gives her a good night out! You can set up alerts on many ticket sites so that you get notified when bands of interest are on tour near you. This is a great way to get the perfect present all year round! If you want to try something new, Ticketmaster have some really great interest and even family an attractions sections to inspire you if you’re not sure which show or event to choose.

I hope this helps inspire your gift buying choices, but remember Mother’s Day is on Sunday 6^th March this year, so don’t forget the card!

All I want for Christmas is ….

Nude Jewellery is an independent London jewellers who stock a wide and varied range of contemporary jewellery. They are running a competition for bloggers to write a post, selecting a piece of jewellery as their Christmas pick from their website.

They have designer jewellery handmade by leading local, national and international designers, unusual jewellery and bespoke jewellery so plenty for me to browse around. There are some amazing items. I am really spoilt for choice, but I’ve finally decided that my Christmas Pick is this beautiful necklace.

I was really attracted to this beautiful Fleur – Garnet Silver Pendant. Absolutely stunning in my opinion. I’m sure I would get some great compliments wearing something like this unusual beautiful piece.

The pendant with flowers surrounding red tear shape garnet gemstone centre has a 22mm height and 11mm width and is on a 16-18 inch silver chain. It has been designed and created in the UK.

Prehistoric Presents update

Regular readers of my blog will remember the giveaway I ran last month for 4 Prehistoric Presents Dinosaur gift bags.  The lucky winners were Laura H, Naomi C, Vicky C and Sid W.

Salim of Prehistoric Presents was so pleased with the number of new Twitter followers which this generated for his business, that he offered me a free gift from his jewellery range.

I could choose between either the Spiral Goniatite or Orthoceras pendant.  A difficult choice as they both look beautiful in the pictures on the website, but I opted for the Spiral Goniatite. This contains a fossil which is about 300 million years old.  I also got to choose what length thong I would like for it.

When I opened the package, I got an extra surprise. Salim had included two Spiral Goniatites, both quite different to each other, as each fossil is unique.  They were both absolutely gorgeous.  One was on a black leather thong and it was simple to undo the silver clasp and swap them over.

A Spiral Goniatite on a leather thong retails at £16 which is really good value in my opinion. You can choose between a black or natural leather thong.  Alternatively you may buy a Spiral Goniatite on a silver chain.  There is a choice of chain length and prices start at £28 for an 18 inch chain.

Take a look at the other pieces in the jewellery range.  They are stunning and would make lovely Christmas presents or a treat to yourself.  There are also cufflinks for the gents.  Or for something really special, you may have a piece individually designed and crafted by Salim and you can be involved in the design process of your unique piece of jewellery.
