Mint Matcha Chocolate Raspberry Milkshake

So what do you drink in the summer? I mean to quench your thirst, rather than something alcoholic. Do you grab a can of coke or do you prefer something more healthy? I have received a free sample of matcha & mint tea from EatClean Tea and been challenged to create a delicious and healthy recipe for #SummerofMatcha. They want to help people cut down on their sugar intake by saying bye bye to fizzy drinks and sugar laden juices.

matcha & mint green tea

I’ve heard great things about it, but I’ve never actually tried matcha before. For those who don’t know, matcha is a green tea powder. Take a look at the EatClean Tea website, to read about all the healthy benefits of matcha. I decided to use it in a milkshake.

Mint Matcha Chocolate Raspberry Milkshake

A lovely refreshing summer drink. And I was very pleased to find it doesn’t have that bitter aftertaste of green tea. I like mine cool, but if you prefer it colder, then serve with crushed ice.

I’d love to hear your favourite summer drink? I’m planning to try the matcha & mint tea in homemade lemonade or lassi next.

Peanut Hottie review

I have been sent a free new drink to try – Peanut Hottie. I received a full size 260g pot, two 20g individual sachets, a packet of vegetarian marshmallows plus a few accessories to set the scene, namely a fan, ice cubes, a bottle and straw.

Peanut Hottie drink

I love the name Peanut Hottie, but it is even more versatile as this peanut butter flavour drink can be consumed hot like hot chocolate or cold as a milkshake. Peanut Hottie comes in two flavours – Peanut Hottie and Chocolate Peanut Hottie.

Now peanuts seem to be something you either love or hate. I’m definitely in the love camp, but the boys aren’t quite so keen. They refused to try the Peanut Hottie drinks, but I’ve seen some great recipes on the Peanut Hottie website, so I’m planning to try making some Peanut Hottie pancakes. Let’s see what they think of those.

But first I tried the Chocolate Peanut Hottie hot, for which you just need to add hot water. Tasty and only 83 calories per mug.

Secondly I made a milkshake, mixing 3 teaspoons of Chocolate Peanut Hottie with 200 ml cold semi-skimmed milk before serving with the provided straw. Slurp slurp. Even more tasty and still only 130 calories. And less than 100 calories if you use almond milk instead.

I liked the richness of the milkshake, so I then experimented on my next hot drink. This time it was one of the individual sachets of Peanut Hottie flavour and I made it with 2/3 hot water, topped up with milk. Yummy. I’m not calorie counting.

Peanut Hottie is available from Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Booths and Waitrose, currently with a RRP of £2.99. It is suitable for vegetarians and contains no artificial additives or colours. The Peanut Hottie flavour is caffeine free although the Chocolate Peanut Hottie flavour is not.

In summary, I really recommend both flavours of Peanut Hottie. I liked them equally.

I’d love to hear if you have an idea of something to cook using Peanut Hottie.

Happy Monkey review and giveaway

Happy Monkey is a brand who produce chilled smoothies and milkshakes for children.  The smoothies come in two flavours – orange & mango and strawberry & banana – with no added sugar, no sweetners, no preservatives, no bits and 100% pure fruit. Each carton contains one full portion of fruit towards your 5 a day and is an ideal size for a lunchbox. The milkshakes come in two flavours – chocolate and strawberry – and contain all the goodness of milk, have no artificial flavours or colouring and are school approved.

Happy Monkey also have the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal. This means that they only use bananas for their smoothies which are grown in an environmentally sustainable way and that fair wages are paid to the workers so they can enjoy better living conditions, housing, medical care for them and their dependants plus free education for their children.

I received some free samples of Happy Monkey smoothies and milkshakes to review, which my children have been trying over the last few days. Verdict from son1 was that he really loved the strawberry and banana smoothie, second place to chocolate milkshake and third place to strawberry milkshake. He didn’t like the orange and mango smoothie, but he has never particularly liked orange or mango drinks, so no reflection on the product. I finished his rejected carton and thought it delicious. Meanwhile son2 was the opposite, as he liked the strawberry milkshake best, then chocolate milkshake and then orange and mango smoothie He declared that he didn’t like the strawberry and banana smoothie, but he may have just been trying to copy his brother, as this was the drink he was having at the time son1 said he didn’t like the orange and mango one.

They retail at all major supermarkets.  According to My Supermarket, the best price currently is at Asda where the smoothies are £1.50 for 4 and the milkshakes are £1 for 3.  This is very good value in my opinion.

Overall I was very pleased with these products. They will definitely be going on my shopping list.  Both good for the kids and being ethical makes me happy.

You can also find some fun games on the Happy Monkey website. Son1 had lots of fun playing Bongo Balls.

And I’m hosting a rafflecopter competition to giveaway a week’s worth of drinks courtesy of Happy Monkey to one lucky winner.
