We have received another free childrens’ book from Harper Collins for son1 to review. It is a preview copy before the actual publication. This time it is The Parent Agency, the first book by David Baddiel, better known as a comedian. Son1 had never seen a preview copy of a book before and was surprised to keep finding pages labelled “artwork coming” where the illustrations would go.
David Baddiel has written a children’s book called The Parent Agency.
A brilliantly funny, gripping novel from a born storyteller, The Parent Agency is an epic wish-fulfilment adventure for every child – and for the child in everyone.
Barry said, a third time, “I wish I had better parents!” And then suddenly the entire room started to shake…
Barry Bennett hates being called Barry. In fact it’s number 2 on the list of things he blames his parents for, along with 1) ‘being boring’ and 3) ‘always being tired’.
But there is a world, not far from this one, where parents don’t have children. That’s far too random for something so big and important. In this world, children are allowed to choose their parents.
For Barry Bennett, this world seems like a dream come true. Only things turn out to be not quite that simple…
Illustrated by Roald Dahl Funny Prize winner, Jim Field.
Here is a video review of The Parent Agency by son1.
The Parent Agency, written by David Baddiel is currently retailing in hardback on Amazon for £6 compared to a RRP of £12.99. It is also available as a Kindle edition. It is targetted at children, age 9+ but son1 isn’t 9 yet and loved reading it himself. I kept hearing him chortling away to himself whilst he was reading. It is published by Harper Collins. We can’t comment on the artwork as this isn’t in the preview edition, apart from one illustration.
And here is a video of David Baddiel talking about the book.
There is a facebook page for The Parent Agency and currently they are running a competition for kids to share their “perfect” parents for a chance to win an iPad mini.
And I’m hosting a rafflecopter competition to giveaway a copy of The Parent Agency to one lucky winner. Plus the rafflecopter option to subscribe to the David Baddiel newsletter also gives you a chance to win a family break to Alton Towers.

My late parents were the best and made me who I am today. Just sad they did not live long enough to see their grandchildren’s families 🙂
