An Eagle in the Snow – book review and giveaway

Son1’s latest read is An Eagle in the Snow by Michael Morpurgo which he received free to review. Although Michael Morpurgo is a high profile author of 100+ children’s books, this is the first of his books that son1 has read. And he was hooked, reading the 250+ pages in just 2 days. So I’d better buy at least a couple more for his Christmas stocking.

An Eagle in the Snow

This novel is inspired by the true story of Private Henry Tandey VC in World War I.

This is what it says on the back cover.

The powerful new novel from the master storyteller – inspired by the true story of one man who might have stopped World War II.

All Billy could think now was that before he had done the wrong thing and now he must do the right thing. He had to stop the suffering before it began, that was all there was to it. He had no choice…

And some more from inside the front cover.

1940. The train is under attacks from German fighters. In the darkness, sheltering in a railway tunnel, the stranger in the carriage with Barney and his mother tells them a story to pass the time.

And what a story. The story of a young man, a young soldier in the trenches of World War I who, on the spur of the moment, had done what he thought was the right thing.

It turned out to have been the worst mistake he ever could have made – a mistake he must put right before it is too late…
