Chicken and vegetable chilli stir fry

Regular readers of my blog may have noticed that I am gradually building up a collection of Ozeri Green Earth cookware. The latest item that I have received free to review is the 30cm wok. I’m really pleased to have received this as my existing wok is probably my most regularly used pan and it is starting to show signs of its age.

So having come home after a 12hr shift at work when the rest of the family had already eaten, I decided to try the Green earth wok out on a meal just for me only. I was pleased to see it again came with a pan protector for stacking. But I certainly couldn’t attempt to read the user guide – far too small a font size.

However from my existing Green earth frying pans, I remembered that I just needed to season the wok first with half a teaspoon of olive oil and to cook at a low heat, due to Green Earth Pans being a better conductor of heat than traditional pans, otherwise the food may burn. And then I set to making a delicious spicy stir-fry, seeing as the kids weren’t going to be eating it.

Chicken & vegetable chilli stir fry

Ingredients (serves 1)

150g broccoli
1 medium onion
40g sugar snap peas
1 medium carrot
40g cashew nuts
40g cooked chicken
2 tsp olive oil
1 tsp chilli oil

Method

Peel and dice the onion.
Peel and cut the carrot into batons.
Chop the broccoli into florets.
Bring a small saucepan of water to the boil.
Par-boil the broccoli for 3 minutes.
Drain and set aside.
Add olive oil to wok.
Heat gently and add onion and cashew nuts.
After a couple of minutes, add carrot, broccoli and sugar snap peas.
Stir in the chilli oil.
Add the chicken.
Stir fry for about 5 minutes.
Serve hot and enjoy.

You can order this wok via Amazon.  Currently the price has been reduced from £49.99 to £38.95. I’m not sure how this price compares to other woks, but I’ve also been asked to post my review on the US Amazon.com and I noticed that the price there is about half the UK price, a substantial difference. Why is this? Still best to order via UK site, as the shipping and import fees from US would increase the cost back above £38.95.

The packaging also indicates that the wok is induction stove safe and has an oven-safe handle. I’ve never tried wok cooking in the oven previously but that sounds a great feature, especially with the non-stick properties. When I’ve tried transferring frittatas in my cast-iron cookware from hob to under the grill, they do tend to stick to the dish.

This is a good quality item in my opinion. And I can mention that my existing Green Earth frying pans are still looking in great condition, the first of which is over 18 months old now. The wok has a smooth surface compared to the textured surfaces of the frying pans.

And let me remind you what I found out previously. I discovered that the Ozeri Green Earth pans are one of the first non-stick pans to be free of harmful heavy metals and chemicals. This is due to the ceramic coating which is 100% PTFE and PFOA free. I had never realised that previously when cooking at high temperatures that toxic fumes were probably being released into the environment. I have been making a conscious effort since, to cook at lower temperatures, although still struggling to get my other half to remember to do the same.

Ozeri is a manufacturer of products for contemporary homes. I have previously reviewed two of their frying pans, the 20cm and the 26cm versions.

Thank you. I’ve used this wok lots now and it is still looking good. Pity it didn’t come with a lid though. I kept the lid from my old wok, but it is rather big for this one
